Reverend Father Sully Guillaume-Sam

The Reverend Father Sully Guillaume-Sam is a devoted husband to Jirlande, father of three sons: Johnathan, Jeffrey and Carl, and priest in the Episcopal / Anglican Church. He was born and raised in Haiti, where he attended school and received two bachelor's degrees: one in Theology from the Roman Catholic Seminary (University Pontifical Urbanienne) and the other in Sociology from the State University of Haiti. In 1999, Fr. Sully was ordained a priest in the Roman Catholic Church.

Fr. Sully passionately believes in the benefits of a quality education. He utilizes any opportunity to encourage the youth to remain in school and obtain their college degrees, which will equip them to serve others more effectively. In 2002, as a Roman Catholic priest, he immigrated to the United States to further his studies. In 2006, he earned a Master of Arts degree in Religious Studies from Fordham University, NY. In 2010, he

officially left the Roman Catholic Church to continue ministry as an Episcopal/Anglican priest. The context of his work in the Episcopal Church urged him to return to school, and he obtained, in 2021, a Master of Science Degree in Leadership from Duquesne University, PA.

June 2025 will mark his 26th anniversary in priesthood. He served as a Roman Catholic missionary during his first ten years of ministry. However, he has since served as an Episcopal parish priest for the past fifteen years. Prior to answering the call to come to St. Gabriel’s, he had pastored the congregation of the St. Thomas Episcopal Church, in Bushwick, for eleven years, as its ninth rector. He is keenly aware of the responsibility of the local church to practice the Word of God; to be relevant, impactful, and effective in its neighboring communities. It is with this understanding and vision that he has dedicated his service to fostering better relations among parishioners and between the local church and its community.

He is fluent in Haitian Creole, French, English, and has extensive experience working with and ministering to people from diverse backgrounds. In his leisure, he enjoys traveling with his family, and meeting and learning from people of other cultures. Having visited close to twenty different countries thus far, he looks forward to further exploration. He believes that regardless of our differences, there are many areas of life where we all can connect, understand one another, agree, work, and build together. Though he remains deeply Haitian, he sees himself as a citizen of the world, and a brother to all human beings.
